Customer Rating: Summary: Dremel Pet Grooming Tool Comment: I am not very satisfied with this product. We have determined that it is too much grinding to only use the tool on our dog's toe nails. Therefore, we are clipping first and then using the grooming tool to finish the process and smooth the nails. We have to be extremely careful or her hair gets caught in the spinning shaft (even when using the suggestion of covering her foot with a nylon stocking and allowing the nails to protrude). Our dog is small (12 pounds) and her toe nails are small enough that it is difficult to grind from their bottom side without touching hair or the pad of her foot. The dog allows the grinding but is not very happy about it. If I could have tried it first, I would not have purchased the tool.
Customer Rating: Summary: Just a Dremel Comment: It's just a dremel with an insert describing how to use it with pets. There's no guard to prevent one from dremeling too close to the quick.
If you already have a dremel, use that. Just let the pet get used to the noise, praise them, give them treats for staying calm near it. And once they don't react to it, dremel their nails being careful to not get close to the quick. The same way you'd do with any other nail trimming device.
If you don't have a dremel, you could get this one primarily to use on your pets, but you can still use it for any other dremelly purposes...so that's handy.
Customer Rating: Summary: Too Loud for a Manicure Comment: I purchased this with great hopes that this would solve the anxious time associated by triming the dog's nails. After following the prescribed method that came with the device and gradually introducing my Yorkie it just didn't work. She trembled for 20 minutes after just having it near her. If your dog is a bit nervous, this will not help. My Yorkie never wanted her nails clipped but this added noise and vibration and freaked her out!!! So I gave it to my daughter who has two larger dogs and also helps out at a dog rescue. So maybe she will get some good use out of it. Clipping dogs nails is just tough and I am disappointed that this wasn't the answer for us. Good luck!!!!
Customer Rating: Summary: Dremel Pet Nail Trimmer Thingy Comment: Well, we've had mixed success. My one dog (90# Mutt - Emil)won't have anything to do with the Dremel. The other dog (80# Catahoula - Hilda) doesn't mind it. Hilda's nails are extremely tough - she broke the guillotine trimmer and even the plier type require a great deal of hand strength. And her nails get very long, very quickly. So instead of going to get them trimmed every 2 weeks, I thought we'd give this a try. Initially, both speeds worked but it didn't seem to do much sanding at low speed - high worked better for her nails. After 2 sessions, the high speed quit working. Changed the batteries and neither speed worked. Changed the batteries again and still neither speed worked. Checked the little copper contacts and they seem to be fine - none bent awkwardly.
In conclusion, even when high speed worked, I guess Hilda's nails are just too tough for this thing. While I like the idea of a cordless tool, what good is it if I can't get the new batteries to work. It's going into the trash and I'll go to Home Depot to buy a regular cordless, rechargeable Dremel.
Customer Rating: Summary: Great little tool Comment: I got this for a puppy who was so terrified of clippers that I had to hand file her black nails. I bought it because the price was good and I didn't know if she would accept it. I did not want to waste the money in the event that my puppy would not accept that either. She was a bit hesitant at first but warmed up to it by the third paw. I have had it for a month now and have done 3 rounds with my adult golden and 5 rounds with my puppy on the same batteries. I don't know how long they will last but I am satisfied.
The size is fits comfortably in my hands and the fact that it is cordless makes it easy to manipulate. It is very quiet so it does not spook the dogs. It took a little for them to get comfortable with the vibration from the spinning drum. The instructions suggest a 1/2 inch drum and sander for larger dogs and I got those. Although the included 1/4 inch have worked just fine but a bit slower.
